The Story Behind l’arco

A vision born out of passion and a glass of wine

L’Arco was born from the shared dream of creating something extraordinary in the heart of Tuscany. Inspired by a conversation over a glass of wine among friends, Elena Barbi and her partners, Francesca Raspanti and Michael Oettli, recognised a need to offer something unique and tailored in Montepulciano. Their vision was to create a tour operator that would provide elevated, bespoke experiences, immersing guests in the true essence of Tuscany.

The people behind the Experience

Elena Barbi
CEO and Co-founder
Elena’s deep connection with Tuscany began in her childhood, despite moving around Italy due to her father’s career. After graduating in Economics and gaining experience in marketing, she returned to Montepulciano to manage her family’s historical guesthouse. Her dream of opening a travel agency has allowed her to help guests from around the world discover the authentic beauty of Tuscany.
Michael Oettli
Co-founder
With a Master’s degree in Greek and Roman Archaeology, Michael spent over 25 years successfully leading his own company in the language services industry. His passion for history, culture, and the Tuscan lifestyle led him to join L’Arco Experiences. Michael is dedicated to creating personalized relationships with clients, ensuring that every experience exceeds expectations.
Francesca Raspanti
Tour Guide
A licensed tour guide since 2009 with a background in art history and qualifications as a sommelier and professional taster, Francesca brings her passion for local culture, food, and wine to every tour. Her deep love for Montepulciano and its surroundings is evident in the unique, insider perspective she offers to her clients.
